Korean Culture
“Hello, everyone, my name is Rina from South Korea. I am a senior transfer student in SIUC.” “This time, I'll introduce to you about Korean culture with pictures.”
I point the finger at the picture and then I tell “The first thing of Korean culture is Hangul.” “Hangul is example that shows best individuality of Korean culture.” “On world historic absolutism society king origin that gestates character for general people.” “Therefore, Hangul are clear purpose and target of character invention so much.” And “Hangul is apt to learn because it is phonetic symbol as English.” “Hangul has 10 vowels and 14 consonants, is apt to learn and can make sound of about 8,000 sounds by 24 characters.”
“Look at this picture!” “Do you guys know what this is?” “This is Kimchi.” “Kimchi is a fiery flavor and cultural history of Korean dish.” “It is not only one of the most popular Korean dish and also healthy food for everyone.” “Kimchi is a highly nutritious fermented food with unique taste and flavor.” “The Kimchi represents one of the basic dishes for Koreans.” “Kimchi is always on the Korean dining table no matter how poor the meal is.” “It goes well with white rice.” “In Korea, there are about 100 kinds of Kimchi according to different seasons.”
“The third one is Hanbok.” “As you look, the woman's hanbok consists of jeogori, a blouse, and a skirt called chima.” “The man's hanbok consists of longer jeogori and baggy pants called baji.” “Hanbok is the Korean traditional costume and it contains characteristics and tradition of Korea.” “For example, the long white overcoat has log symbolized the dignity of the traditional gentleman.” “The Hanbok has been a unique traditional costume for thousands of years.” “Hanbok was everyday clothes before spread western clothes (before Korean War), but people still wear Hanbok at ceremonies, weddings and on traditional holidays.”
“Do you guys with me?” “Let’s look at the other picture.” “There is Taekwondo that represents our country's sports.” “Taekwondo is art of self-defense that keeps away companion's attack or attacks companion by exercise of the whole body worth being one of Korean characteristic military arts, and uses hand and feet.” “Tae is feet, kwon is fist, do is chivalry and chivalry mind and sports mind are motion that is combined.” “It originated in Korea and is now practiced all over the world because it became an official sport in the 2000 Sydney Olympics.”
“There are various types of knives according to the purpose of their use in the world.” “Among them we can find a traditional knife in Korea, an ornamental silver knife, in museums or stores easily which has its unique use.” “As you look at it is very small: the big one is five inches and the small one is one and half inch.” “It is not only used for self-defense but also for suicide tool.” “Additionally, it was one of decoration in clothes.”
“Now, we learned five Korean cultural things, which are Hangul, Kimchi, Hanbok, Taekwondo, and ornamental silver knife when we saw pictures.” “Thank you for listening.” “Do you guys any question?”
